Today i.e 06/12/2015 was a special Day for me today . Finally I got a chance to meet Col S. B Salunke,Vir Chakra awardee in his residence .A cheerful young old man with a pretty moustache to suite to his vibrant personality came out to greet .
We talked in length about his life as a Major during 1971 war commanding the 6 Maratha light Infantry and how he spearheaded the attack and capture of Shakargarh Sector for which he received a Vir Chakra .He showed us his Vir Chakra medal and the citation he received for his bravery and his men. We then talked on OROP,Chennai

floods, sports, politics and on Lataji’s songs( ae mere watan ke logon… that she sang dedicating to him in a function).
Even in his late 70s Col Salunke is full of vibrance and of immense energy .Simple living ,with high thinking, driven by passion and commitment towards Army and society at large .An imbibed trait i found in every Army officers I have ever meet or knows in person.
Also came to know he has passed on his baton and his legacy to his son who now is a Indian army Brigadier.
It was an honor to meet someone in person and that too a Gallantry award winner. He ,a real heroes and pride of Pune .
A grand salute to him and to every other real heroes like him, in uniform.
Jai Hind !
